The Great Resignation has officially dawned on Corporate America! The Great Resignation is a term for the mass exodus of employees and the term was coined by Anthony Klotz, a Texas A&M Organizational Psychology professor.
The pandemic gave employees the time to reflect on their career aspirations. Many employees are leaving their jobs or are actively planning their exit strategy. Employees are leaving their jobs for many reasons such as stress, burn out, their company’s COVID-19 policies, work schedules, and increased work demands.
Are you planning your exit strategy? If so, keep in mind that on average, the job search takes between 2-6 months depending on the industry, level, and job title. Something that can expedite your job search is scheduling career connects with current employees and recruiters for the companies you're seeking employment. These connections will help you weed out positions that you are not interested in and speed up the process for those positions you are interested in. Let me break it down below:

If you’re leaving your employer because you are unhappy with the company culture it is imperative that you do thorough research on your prospects for your next job. While Glassdoor reviews are a good start to find out the tea on a company’s culture it still is not enough. The best way to find out about the company culture is to go to the source: current employees. I recommend reaching out to current employees via LinkedIn but sending an email is also an option. Check out my Cold LinkedIn Message Career Connect Template below:
There are many potential benefits to reaching out to current employees:
They can give you the inside scoop on the company culture, management and org structure, and provide a true day in the life at the company.
They can share the impact of the company’s response to COVID-19
Depending on a company’s policy, they may be able to give you a referral. Referrals are essential for companies that receive a high amount of applications.
Cold LinkedIn Recruiter Connect Template
In addition to reaching out to current employees, I recommend reaching out to recruiters at the company you’re interested in applying to. Check out my Cold LinkedIn Message Recruiter Template below:
There are many potential benefits to reaching out to recruiters directly:
They can review your resume before you send your application to see if the position would be a good fit or find a position that might be a better fit.
They can push your application through by giving you a referral.
They may be able to give you a timeline on the hiring process
